Design Example – Industrial to Traditional

We want to share the wonderful designs our team put together to help show you what can be possible from our design process.
This example is from a town house in Copenhagen.
When our client first came to us there were a number of elements in his brief. He wanted an open plan kitchen that encouraged a communal sense of living with an industrial feel. He wanted this raw feeling to contrast the rest of his period feature town house in Sweden.
The process of design will always start with listening to our client. Their style, the requirements for within the space and importantly how this space will be used. The first stage of design can often lead to several iterations of one idea. When you show a client one space it will spark other thoughts and inevitably, things change. This is sometimes a lengthy process but it’s one we relish.

When our client initially spoke of his love for the industrial feel we jumped on it. Immediately we thought that industrial steel shutters on the face of larder cabinets, antiqued brass worktops and floating shelves would all have a place in this light airy flat. This is where we started on the design journey.

However as the design process developed and we spoke to the client more, we realised that although they liked the industrial feel it didn’t work in this space or with the rest of the flat.
We then turned to a more traditional approach. In-frame with hand painted shaker cabinets, that uses contemporary colours to keep the feel modern but insuring It wouldn’t date.  The client’s eclectic mix of furniture, rugs and light fittings would compliment the traditional kitchen and bring a complementary mix of new and old.

Final Design

We were thrilled with the final design, the simple layout of the ‘U-shape’ in the kitchen creates a practical space that’s still perfect for entertaining. There is no over dominate feature but instead the layout is subtle, with natural separation within the kitchen create by colour. A perfect kitchen for a busy London couple.

Estimated cost–  £21,800 excluding appliances, excluding worktops. Delivery cost based on UK prices.
Style and finish– Traditional Shaker, painted with Farrow and Ball, Card Room Green and Farrow and Ball, Hauge Blue.
Worktop– Arenastone, Engineered Quartz, Concretto Grigio. Estimated price between £3000 – £4500.
