A CARBON NEUTRAL BUSINESS
Sustainable Kitchens operates as a certified carbon-neutral business, recognised by the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), and forming a part of our wider journey to becoming net zero.
Our passionate team works together in all aspects of the business to measure, manage, and reduce carbon emissions output.
The next focus is our supply chain, promoting transparency with suppliers and partnering with eco-friendly and sustainable companies who are equally invested in fighting climate change.
SUSTAINABLE TIMBER
Our cabinets are built primarily from wood, and we are obsessed with this most elemental of materials sourced from responsible suppliers.
We use high-grade Birch plywood for our kitchen carcasses. Birch Plywood is an extremely strong material, meaning it will not sag or swell over time. Our kitchen carcasses are finished with a tough, water-based, matte lacquer that retains the natural, unique beauty of the wood.
We have removed the need for plastic feet in the kitchen that we install and replaced them with wooden adjustable plinths, made from our offcuts.

REFORESTATION COMMITMENT
Through our partnership with Avon Needs Trees, we are helping replant the UK’s native woodland.
The Sustainable Kitchens Tree Dedication Scheme ensures the planting and maintenance of sustainable trees with each kitchen we make. As a team, we take pride in volunteering for the charity and the upkeep of these wonderful projects that benefit not only the communities local to them, but the whole planet.
We have previously supported planting through The Woodland Trust and The Forest of Avon Trust.

LOCAL MATERIALS
We aim to source our materials as locally as possible to reduce carbon emissions from transporting materials, which many other businesses often do internationally.
Whether it’s our hardware from Herefordshire or wood from Wiltshire, we have a rich manufacturing history in this country, which encourages everyone to champion for a greener tomorrow.
REHOME WASTE REDUCTION
When planning your dream sustainable kitchen, you may be stuck trying to figure out how you can dispose of your existing kitchen without it going to landfill. We’ve teamed up with Rehome, formerly known as Used Kitchen Exchange, who specialise in dismantling and selling perfectly good pre-loved kitchens to reduce waste and give your used kitchen a new lease of life.

LESS WASTE
We strive to re-use and recycle wherever and whenever possible, committing very little of our workshop materials to waste. Careful, strategic cutting lists and an eye for recycled design mean nothing is wasted.
Our kitchens are delivered with recycled and recyclable protective wrapping.
Our excess material is used to heat our workshop.
Some of our project off-cuts are shared with external companies who reuse the materials to make wonderful items such as bird boxes and bee hotels.
HANDMADE KITCHENS
All of our sustainable kitchens are handmade right here in the UK at our workshop in Bristol by our incredible team of joiners and makers. By having full control of manufacturing and sourcing most of our materials from local businesses, we can keep our transport carbon emissions as low as possible.
HAND PAINTING
We hand spray kitchen fronts to a colour of your choice. This process includes a coat of primer and then 2 coats of your chosen colour, creating a durable and beautiful finish. This allows you to touch up any damage over time, or choose to repaint the kitchen for a fresh lease of life.
We use water-based paints through a colour-match service, allowing us to create a durable, longer-lasting finish.
PRIOR MADE RECYCLING
To prevent our offcuts from ending up in landfills, we share them with local independent maker Prior Made, who skillfully transform these materials into exquisite homeware and trinkets.
